Unified World is known for its commitment to the local community; procuring products and services from other businesses within the local area and providing opportunities for local young talent via Apprenticeships.

“We’ve recruited several Level 3 IT apprentices over the years to support the growth of Unified World,” says Managing Director Howard Jones. “Apprenticeship programmes have provided us with the opportunity to develop local talent keen to play an active role in the rapidly changing world of telecommunications and IoT.”

Once such apprentice is twenty-two-year-old Connor Mellor, who started his journey at Unified World as a Level 3 IT apprentice in October 2015. “I left college without a clear idea of what my next step would be,” explains Connor. “I have always been interested in technology and IT, so when I came across the IT Apprenticeship at Unified World, I saw it as an opportunity to learn and earn at the same time, doing something I was interested in.”

Over the past three and a half years, Connor has worked across the business taking on various roles so he can better understand the company’s products and its customers. “I worked in customer service, technical support and stock management before being given the opportunity to take on an account management role in July 2018,” explains Connor.

“Connor is a fine example of what you want an apprentice to be,” states Howard. “He has worked hard and embraced every opportunity afforded him since his time at Unified World. He has taken to the role of Account Manager so well that he has secured his own customers to manage in January 2019.”

“The Account Manager role gets me out of the office and in front of the customer which is enjoyable,” shares Connor. “Problem-solving, finding the right solutions for the customer and ensuring their expectations are met, is the main focus of what I do as an Account Manager. No two days are the same!”
